Downgrading

Found a good virtue of my uncle (living next to my house). He is damn patient!!

I lend my car to him as he needs it to drive back to kampar. All his cars are old and not suitable to drive long distance anymore. Thats the reason why i exchange my car with him. But, at the point of time i agreed to exchange with him, i have forgotten that i need my car today (Saturday). I will be going out for whole day to release my stress and unhappiness.

No turning point, and i have to use his old kancil with a big cop of driving schools address at the side. Tested out yesterday night:
- 650cc and really no power.
- Gear box with 4 levels.
- no power stereng.
- no radio

But at least there are few things that i favour of:
- it is manual, it gives me the feel of driving.
- its air-con still functioning!!! yeah!!

For this weekend, i dare not to date people who stay far from me, or somewhere that is far from my house. I intended to drive to sri petaling to have dimsum as dinner but luckily i did not. Driving that with 70 - 80 km/j from my house, i think i will only reach after 1 hour drive. Better not!!!

Not really used to the car, driving slow on the road, turning hard the driving wheel, no radio but i still have to drive it to 1U later!! lol!!

Think i wont downgrade myself in the future as i cant accept those perform worse than my current.

SQL

For the whole last week, i rarely touch on my regular management reporting task, but i involved in data extraction, data analysis, data verification. Performing all these, i need to know SQL (Structured Query Language) application to extract data from the database.

Feeling myself with damn low productivity as i just able to get 2 analysis done. Due to my stupidity and limited knowledge of the system, i redo the things and amend my code for more than 3 times. Just because of setting wrong condition, taking from wrong tables, having wrong understanding towards the columns etc.

Therefore, im playing around with the codes for whole week and actually im quite new to this language as i did not learn this in my Uni life. As i know so far, statistics from UM offered this subject to their students. While learning from website and my short notes, i completed it at a slowest pace.

Ya, i did learn something on that which i appreciate much. Since the analysis directly requested from my CFO, and he started to chase me. Day and night im thinking of my codes, thinking of what went wrong, how to get a more reliable data etc. It turns out that, i even dreamed of it at night.

I can recall just after i woke up, my mind still with the codes. OMG!! Im going crazy with that. My nightmare started yesterday. Why? Because of the data verification that i did, found out some potential issues and errors in which I have to verify all the reports given by agency admin team in future. In other words, i serve as the auditor for that. Argh!!!! We just have 2 ppl in my team and now another new regular task.

Kill me please!!! Hopefully another SM can take over this, as she is new to this language as well, i have to teach her before she can perform it.

Last weekend i rushed back for wedding dinner in Syuen, and the next day i back to KL for another dinner. This was it!! A short preview..

Syuen Hotel (4-stars)

Last Friday, I just attended a wedding dinner at Syuen Hotel Ipoh. I knew it sounds ridiculous to have it on Friday but not Saturday, but that is not the point i wanna raise it here.

This was my first time in Syuen although i lived in Kampar for so long. It claimed themselves as the best hotel in Ipoh with a 4-star rating. From their outlook, it does looks grand and worth a 4 star rating. However, when it comes to their services and facilities, i will only utter one word: "SUCKS!!!!"

I wont go far in rooms and facilities, i will just focus on what i experienced and what i saw in just a short wedding dinner.

1. The floor of the receptionist is not using the same tiles as the lobby. Theirs are old and dirty.

2. They allow smoking in air-conditioned area.

3. The wall of the ballroom is not furnished.

4. Toilet doesn't have urinal for kids. (normally there will be one down to the floor for kids usage)

5. Simple decoration with 'complicated' price. Be it the reception table, the entrance and even the stage. They are just too cincai to give that to their customers.

6. The table cloth for the reception table is wet.

First 6 items for the facilities. Lets go to the food and services:

7. They have no enough crews to serve us. Once they are delivering the dishes no crews around for servicing. All of us have to serve ourselves, pour the tea ourselves, and serve the table. (4-star service,zz)

8. The crew kept knocking our table when she serves. (I wonder is she not professional enough, or she is too short to serve the table? Out of 10 times, she knocked 10 times. zzz

9. When I asked for a plate change, she even nego with me. "Can i change your plate after next dish? We normally only change plate after serving the chicken but not for now." Wow, faint!!

10. Believe most of you tasted the dessert of lotus and white fungus? And all of us know that the inner part of the lotus seed is not edible.It is bitter in taste. The picture will be the best evidence of their bad services:



Fucking 4-stars hotel. Only for few hours, i found out 10 bad things and it just for part of their services. Would you wish to stay in Syuen anymore?

First day with new boss

Today is my first day without my old boss. He has been seconded to another department within the same business entity. Although i still can reach him, but he no longer in charge of my team's projects.

Another manager from regional reporting (same level) is overseeing my team. Of course, she is not as flexible as my old boss does. As what my senior told me, she is more strict regarding to delivery time of task. And of course i wont exceed the time limit given unless i really totally stuck with the thing. However somebody will guide me if this is the case, be it my senior or my old boss.

My AM had asked me some time in last week:

"How do you feel of the recent change of our team structure?"

"Feeling more stress."

"Why? All strategic planning team members are happening people and this is our culture. We wont change this even though there are others who joining us. She is with us."

"Ya i know, thats the fun part. When it comes to job related parts, i feel more stress as she is more strict then TES (old boss) as she is known with."

"Ya, just learn slowly and you will finally adapt to it."

"i know, just that with tes, i can learn relaxingly.. Under her supervision, i have to learn under stress. Dunno is this an advantage for me to learn more things or it makes thing worse. Everything is unknown till she come."

"Ya, hopefully you wont have any hard feeling. Anything just let me know and we will help you."

"Sure, thanks."

Today, my senior was absent as well. There is one trainee joining my team today, but im the one who 'jaga kedai'. My new boss have to take care of her own team as well.My CFO had requested something from me, and in fact i know how to do it but i just lack of some confidence. Whenever there is something urgent to me (due in short time), i will panic and will have careless mistakes here and there.

I knew that this is one of my weaknesses as well. If i am more familiar with what im doing, i should be confident enough to be questioned by any of them. I should be able to dig out any info fast and accurate. (something i have to learn)

I have to submit the thing before lunch time and i have a date with both old and new bosses. I sought for my new boss's opinion before sending the file and she said that i can escalates upward directly to regional office without her going through it by one simple but stressful sentence.

"No need, i trust you."

With this, i check twice, thrice, ......... until my old boss came. He knew bout this and he have a quick check for me. During the lunch time, TES complained my new boss:

"Why you so terrible one? You asking your ppl to do things but you din giv them any support." Horrible la you.. "

At this point of time, i really found out that, he is indeed a good boss. Although he is not serious all the time, but he is knowledgeable and capable in doing things. Somehow as a mentor, he definitely qualified!!

In the other hand, one of colleagues from actuarial IM me:

"Wei, your boss NG FONG SUM you ar?" (some more she uses capital letters)

"nola, just he was nearby and have a quick check of my work."

"wa, he is so nice.."

"but mayb u r true as well, mayb he ng fong sum me."

I need to be more independent and pick up the task as soon as possible. I cant have them worry bout me anymore. Only through this, i can reduce my senior's burden.
